"John:
I first heard you play at the little lounge at the Black
Butte Resort by Sisters, Oregon many years ago. At
that time you only had an LP and I purchased it.
You signed it for me. The next time I heard you
was at the same place a few years later and we did
get your first CD. I wanted to hear you in Roseville,
Ca. tonight (1/22/10) but am recovering from a
recent broken hip and could not get out. I did just
order your latest CD and am anxious to hear it.
Hope to hear you in the future."

"When I listened 'Twelve shades of lights' first time
from one New Age radio program about 15 years
ago at Syracuse NY, I was very impressed (I was a
foreign student from Korea). I tried to find your CD
but couldn¡¯t from near my place. After ordering
the CD from one CD shop I received it a couple of
days later, and that album became one of my
favorites. After returning back to Korea in 1997, 4
of your albums are still playing at my home and car.
Someday in near future I would like to watch John
¡¯s live performances in Seoul Korea. Thank you for
your music. Best wishes. "

It was great ... we purchased two of your CD's and they are in our car and being played every time we are in the car. I was the person who mentioned to you that I play the piano at our local Cancer Center and Hospital and also at a Methodist Country House ... what an inspiration to hear you play. Thank you for coming to the East Coast and we hope to see you in concert again. We have visited Portland several years ago and loved it. With God's Blessings to you and yours."

"Just listened to your 1991 Christmas CD, "A
Midnight Clear." I got it at Multnomah county
Library and had never heard of you before. The
music reminded me of why I started listening to
Christmas music in the first place. My favorite
Christmas album is still the 1965 Eugene Ormandy
orchestral one from my youth.
However, I have listened to A midnight clear four
times tonight and have decided it is my second all
time favorite Christmas album. The 2007 Christmas
season has been a pretty dismal one for a lot of
reasons, both personally for me and for the general
chaos on the planet. This album just lifted me out
of all the negativity and I felt myself just soaring
into the stratosphere. I think music in general, and
especially Christmas music is MEANT to do that.
And I think you got it right when you did this album
over 15 years ago. I wish I had found it sooner, but
I found it when I needed to. thanks. "

"Your music, and especially the Heaven and Nature cd, has touched every generation of my family...my granddaughter, Clementine, was born last November with the beautiful music playing gently in the background...my 20 year-old daughter put it on the top of her gift list this year...my 15-year-old daughter has it loaded on her i-pod and says it's her favorite cd...and it was often played for my mother in the last two years of her life. THANK YOU for this beautiful gift!"

"Hello again, John!
I've worked overseas for the last 10 years but lived in Oregon for 20 years before that. I still remember your music well. I first heard you performing live out at Black Butte Ranch in 1988 or 89; I heard this incredibly dynamic piano music rippling down the stairs of the lodge and said, "Who's that?" I walked up the stairs and said hi and told you how impressed I was with your work. You were mellow and friendly, a real gentleman, and I said to myself, "This man is an artist among artists." I was able to attend one of your concerts at the Curiosity Shoppe in Bend, which was great; you and Jason worked so well together. I bought your tapes there. I last heard about you in ?1991-92, when my friend R. B. died of cancer. I brought some of your tapes to the hospital for her when she was near the end, to try to bring her some peace and joy. I was amazed to read later that you did a benefit concert after her death, to raise money for her causes (alternative education). John, you're an incredible human being. I'm so glad you're still sharing your gifts with the world. God bless you."

"Over the last thirty years or so, I've listened to countless albums of music from across the spectrum--rock, jazz, blues, world, new age, and so on. "Where Rivers Run" by John Nilsen ranks among the best. Fourteen gorgeous tracks, all brilliantly linked by one unifying theme--the river. "Thirty four birds," "Currents," and "Cascade" are my personal favorites. I gave my mom "Where Rivers Run" for Christmas and she keeps raving about it. If you want to make your own mom happy, buy her this disc! She'll love you for it!"

"John, I recently visited with a friend of your mother's who was anxious to show me around Portland and all of Oregon's treasures. She talked of your music and took me to the Made in Oregon store there in the city. As she pulled a CD from the shelf of your music I could believe it - twelve years ago I lived through Hurricane Andrew in South Florida (still called the Storm of the Century). Six weeks after the hurricane hit I just had to get out for of Florida for a bit to catch my breath and regroup and went to the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA. While in a gift shop your music was playing and I picked up your 'From the Sky' tape and practically wore it out as I cruised the peaks of the mountains in my little car. The music brought healing to my bruised soul and became a constant companion as I returned to continue the work of recovery from the storm. I continued to listen to it over the years during times when I needed to quiet my soul. To meet someone who knew you and reminded me of your music was amazing. I picked up a copy of your 'Where Rivers Run', and once again used it to cruise highway 1 across Canada while my soul was ripe for another dose of tending. What a great companion your music has been. Blessings on the journey! "

Hi !
I am one of your fans based in Singapore and had recently bought two albums of yours , Above & Beyond and Above me and to put it in words simply , they are fantastic ! Being a beginner learner of piano myself , I have always been an avid fan of NewAgeMusic and your album Above & Beyond has remain one of my top favourites ! Your music has help my family and I to relax after a stressing day at work and school and lift our spirits up ! When I tried to enquire about your other albums at CD stores in Singapore , they will either tell me that it's been sold out or that I have to wait for weeks for them to restock ! Will look forward to the day when you can come to Singapore to perform in concert !
It's people like you who produce great music that inspires us to learn piano ! :)"

I met you indirectly through your mother teaching my daughter piano lessons...I have all of your CDs save it one, the newest for Oregon.
True to NO TV in our home, your CDs are a constant background of lover and delight.
We would love to hear another with some more hymns...not that we dislike the others, but seems Sunday services anymore are all new age Christian music and your "Above Me" CD is played daily, regardless of the "repetition" as some may feel, we know each time we hear it, we are praising God.
Thank you for your music, which fills our home with the spirit daily.

" Three years ago, when I flew up to Portland (from Los Angeles) for a surprise 95th birthday party for my great-uncle, I stopped in a "Made In Oregon" store at the Portland airport. While looking at things in the store, killing time, I loved the music the store was playing in the background. I asked the attendant, then checked out the store's sampler CDs, and was hooked almost instantly. I Walked out with "Night Garden" and "Where Rivers Run" before flying home. (And I'm usually not an impulsive buyer.) It was the icing on the cake to a memorable family reunion!
Three years later, "Where Rivers Run" is still one of my favorite two or three CDs and I never seem to tire of listening to it. I was surprised that I had never heard of John Nilsen before, given the quality of the music, and given the associations with Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel, whose music I was familiar with. I missed hearing the live gigs in Southern California last May, but hope to be luckier next time."

"I first met John when I was exchange Methodist minister at Christ United Methodist Church Cedar Mill, Portland Oregon.
He came to play for us in Ormskirk near Liverpool England.
People were knocked out by his music
and I often play it in worship services to create a worshipful atmosphere.
Keep on!!

"Thanks John for mentioning your web site and 'live' schedule.
Terrific raves on the "Ten Grand's" performance at the Schnitzer. We're making early plans for next year, since this year's performance sold out last November. Look forward to some outdoor concerts this summer.

"Thanks for so many rythms that just keep playing over and over in my mind; when waiting for security; during a bad flight; a bad meeting with a client; even at home in the Northwest, any other problems! I am comforted by the songs you put in my memory.
Most artists I need a CD player to remember; you I can play them in my mind. Nice Job!!
Keep new albums coming please John!"

"I first heard John's music (Note: I live on the East Coast) from an unusual source - "The Weather Channel" on cable ! They were playing cuts from the "Sometimes Paris" album behind local forecasts.
The music was so unique and insipred that I was determined to find out who the artist was and what the song title was. I eventually found Magic Wing, played the song over the phone, and John himself identified it! He was very gracious and I will always remember that. I pleased to see his contining success."

"It doesn't get much better then this! Last night - Dan Balmer, Jeff Leonard, Jason Moore and John Nilsen at TRN. A great concert and picnic with our friends and daughter and son in law. Duane and Kelly enjoyed listening to John - 11 months ago when he played at their wedding they didn't get the chance to listen!
Thanks again Dan, Jeff, Jason, John and TRN."

"John, I can't tell you what an honor it was to finally "work" next to you guys tonight at the Street of New Beginnings -- in the hot sun for 2 short hours. I don't get to hear you live often enough around here because of my busy schedule. Your unique sound has flowed through me ever since I first heard you when my daughter Jenna danced to you live through Northwest Conservatory of Dance with Anita Mitchell a few years back. Please don't ever stop creating and performing. You have a gift. Sincerely, Jean "

"I first met John in an English class at Southern Oregon University. That was over 20 years ago, and since then I have found continual growth, depth and maturity in John's music. He is always exploring new directions, and yet his essential grace and humanity colors everything he does. John has a tremendous gift which he shares with an open heart. "

"My company is having a new home show June 15 - July 8th, information on the show can be seen at www.streetofnewbeginnings.com One of the homes that will be featured will ONLY have John Nilsen music playing! It is the best in my private life and the best I could offer the public while touring a home. I only wish John was appearing at the show, I just didn't know how to book him.
Hope to see everyone at the show and listen to John in home #1 in the show.
Claudia"

"I feel priviledged that I learned to play the piano from John's mother, Jean, and that I played duets on the piano with John at our recitals and syllabus.
John went on to create wonderful music and share his talent with the world. I went on to do other things, I'm not even sure I could play chopsticks on the piano today (please, don't tell Jean!) I
'm looking forward to John playing at my wedding, his friendship means a lot to me."

"A few years ago my sister-in-law gave me your "Midnight Clear" CD for Christmas. At the end of the day, when everything had been cleaned up and the kids had gone off to play with their new things, I sat down in the quiet to listen to your CD. It was the most beautiful music I had ever heard. I bought several copies and gave them to my special friends. I was disappointed not to be able to find your work in my part of the country. I was only able to order three of your works from the big book companies, so I was thrilled to find your web address on the covesr of "As Far As Near." I wish you could come to this part of the world to perform. Please keep producing--I love your work."

"Just checking in to see what your performance schedule is for the next few months. Hope I can make a trip to Oregon when you are playing.
Also saving up to buy a couple more of your CD's.
Didn't Dan Balmer play with the Tom Grant Band also? Is mother and father Betty and Don Balmer? I had Dr. Balmer for economics as a freshman at Lewis and Clark and got acquainted with Betty in Mu Phi Epsilon at L & C as well as in the alumni chapter.
Also grasping at straws, but is Leonard related to Pam Leonard who I think was Coryl Moran's daughter. Mrs. Moran was my dorm mother at L & C. May be way off base but thought I would ask.
I still enjoy your tapes and CD's immensely and look forward to hearing you live. What a surprise to see my earlier comment featured!
Pam"

"I purchased my first one of your CD's and a cassette Olson's Drug in Oregon City in 1995. I liked them so much that I bought whatever they had each time I was in. I was finally able to locate your work at Fred Meyer but found you at Amazon.com this morning. I checked further and found your web site.
I never had the opportunity to hear you live in a concert and live on Whidbey Island now. I'm hoping your web site let's your fans know what you have planned.
Your music is wonderful!

"If you wandered in here by accident, don't leave without buying
something. You won't be disappointed. You might start by
selecting the new CD "As Far As Near". Chances are you won't be
able to finish it....that's because you will want to hear the first track
called "China Parade" over and over again. Take it from me, its
a hit. The whole CD is, but "China Parade" thats huge. Thanks."

"Two years ago at this time of year I heard your CD A Midnight Clear--it is the most beautiful Christmas music I've ever heard! Luckily I wrote down the title and your name as I had a difficult time locating it here in the Philadelphia area. Everyone who comes to my home at the holidays remarks about this CD. I've just ordered two more of your CD's and I can't wait to hear them! "

"John, my wife and I just love your music. We met you at Incredible Universe a few years back, and were particularly impressed by the way that you could hold a conversation, and keep playing the piano without missing a beat! We have caught a few of your performances at the Old Church, and have enjoyed each and every set. Keep up the good work you guys!"
